I went with #occupysandy and Times up! to do hurricane relief work. (Occupy Sandy is a relief effort started by Occupy Wall Street.) We took supplies by bike to Far Rockaway from St Luke's Church (520 Clinton Avenue - Clinton Hill, Brooklyn).

This is a photo of the beach. The boardwalk is pretty much gone. It was completely removed from its foundation. Incredible...

I was commissioned to create a biblically inspired piece. It's not visible but she has fangs representing our sinful death filled nature. Also I hoped to show how God's friendship makes us truly human. We are no longer monsters; enemies of God when we know Christ. Beauty is another theme of the piece representing false hopes in us and mistaken half goodness which can be a basis of our false hopes and idols. The scripture it is based on is Romans 5:10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.


Sometimes our greatest friend is our darkest enemy. But his love is always there. Even if we kill ourselves reaching for death the other way.
